It takes a leap of faith to get things going
It takes a leap of faith you gotta show some guts
In your heart you must trust
Leap of Faith
There’s no doubt launching Lee Lee’s Room took a leap of faith! I knew I needed to channel my energy into something creative but I’ll admit I was incredibly anxious and scared to show some guts and take a chance on my new idea. The only thing I was certain of was the fact that writing and Bruce Springsteen’s music and lyrics define part of me. Thank God I had the strength to trust my heart and listen to Bruce…his music and his message. Lee Lee’s Room has enabled me to collide both of my passions.
So let me lay all the cards out on the table. I didn’t second-guess my idea or my potential to launch Lee Lee’s Room; it was the necessary social media “stuff” that made me crazy and doubtful. I’m not embarrassed to admit that social media scares the hell out of me! I’m a complete idiot when it comes to computers…not tech savvy at all! The need to check Facebook constantly, Tweet everyday, figure out a hash tag…ugh! Seriously, I’m still confused and trying to figure out Pinterest and Instagram. WTF! Anyhow, I believed in Lee Lee’s Room and knew I had get over my social media anxiety! But how?
Thanks to my beautiful friend and former colleague Shawna, I found out about a blogging conference. Who knew blogging conferences even existed? This is how out of it I am/was. Shawna told me that if I wanted to be serious about Lee Lee’s Room, I needed to attend the conference in New York. She was 100 percent right. This was my ticket to living in the 21st Century with social media. I finally realized it’s a new world…texting, blogging, tweeting, pinning, poking etc.
Ready to embrace social media and blogging, I showed up at the New York Hilton for BlogHer 2012. The conference was one of the best learning experiences I have had in a really long time. Three jam packed days in early August of “school” and networking. BlogHer offered so many perks…new friends, great resources and a wealth of knowledge from successful bloggers plus celebrity keynote speakers (Katie Couric, Martha Stewart, and Christy Turlington). However, the speaker who inspired me the most wasn’t a celebrity… yet… but certainly someone every celebrity and blogger should know… Amy Jo Martin.
Amy Jo Martin took a leap of faith when she created her company, Digital Royalty. She is a social media genius! Amy Jo has a way of making you believe that you really can achieve what may seem impossible. I was blown away by her speech and life story. She is incredibly inspirational and so motivating. Amy Jo Martin confirmed that I needed to listen to Bruce, take my leap of faith, and launch Lee Lee’s Room. After her speech, I was fortunate enough to meet her and tell her just how moved I was by her story and values.
Her new book, Renegades Write the Rules is fantastic and a must read. It not only offers expert social media tools and advice but also tells a compelling story about her career path. Amy Jo Martin is a renegade. And Amen to that! She’s the true definition of renegade…one who rebels and deserts a set of principles. She has helped form the social media world that we live in right now by writing her own rules. Some of the highlights include: color outside the line without crossing the line, take risks, experiment, and fail early, learn how to push your own buttons! These rules are now my new rules! I believe in her message.
After all, Amy Jo Martin is in sync with the message delivered by my biggest creative inspiration… Bruce Springsteen. As a renegade, Amy Jo Martin knew how to get things going and knew how to show some guts. Renegades Writes the Rules unveils a powerful story proving in your heart you must trust.
If you’re into social media, Renegades Write the Rules is a bible. My favorite commandment courtesy of Amy Jo Martin is part of the reason I took a Leap of Faith into Lee Lee’s Room…
Where passion, skill, and purpose collide…bliss resides!
